PRODUCTION: DAY 5 OF FILMING

Today was our final day of filming, we met at Ladbroke Grove Station at 1 and headed straight to Portobello Road. It was a long walk but it was very worth it as the shots came out just as we had envisioned them. It was difficult to hold up the pictures in front of the camera as the pictures had to be correctly positioned in order for the shot to be the way we intended it to be. It was also quite windy which meant the pictures would not stay still.

All we had left to film was our Portbello Road scenes; this took a little longer than we expected due to the many people that were walking past, resulting in us filming the same shot numerous times which was abit of a setback. We had two locations in Portobello Road that we planned to film at; Alice's Antiques and the colourful houses above a few stores. As we were walking to find these locations we came across a street with a few more colourful houses so we decided to film Alia singing in front of them. We were finished within an hour.

Looking back at our shots we are very happy with what we have. One of our main concerns was making sure the focus is perfect, and it is. All in all, our final day of filming was a very good one. Now time to begin our editing!

PRODUCTION: DAY 4 OF FILMING

On the 4th day of filming we filmed in 'Portobello road' as our last location. We arranged to meet up at 9 in Ladbroke Grove station for Portobello road.  We made the decision to meet up early as Portobello road can get very busy and we did not want any disruptions whilst we were filming. When everyone had finally got to the station we had remembered that we forgot to print out photos of the locations beforehand to film some of our scenes. This initially was a setback - fortunately there was a internet cafe around the corner so we quickly went there and printed our pictures we needed.

We then continued on to film our first scene, which was Alia- The artist to sing infront of a wall covered in artwork. We believed that it would really complement our  music video as the wall was covered with albums and records.

We especially like this scene because of this element. Even though we filmed early to avoid any disruptions however the odd people did walk past here and there.

We successfully filmed our chosen scenes however unfortunately in the midst if filming Eda stepped in a pile of dog waste. It was actually the most entertaining thing that happened the whole day- well not for Eda! :p

** the most important lesson we have learnt - TO ALWAYS LOOK WHERE WE ARE WALKING!
Eda 'attempting to clean up the remains of dog waste on her boots'
We eventually 'got over' this unfortunate event, then carried on to film the rest of the scenes. The next scene involved in Alia sitting outside a cafe near another decorated her wall. I remember we were ecstatic because the sunflower painting matched Alias top, which we thought was a really effective addition. for some reason the colour on the camera was a bit weird and Alia just looked extremely pale however when it comes to editing we'll just adjust the lighting and colour to fix this.

We could not carry on filming after this as it started to rain. Luckily, Alia lives nearby because we popped into hers while the rain calmed down. Also as we only had 27 minutes of footage everything we had filmed we transferred to her computer. Eventually the rain did calm down so we went to carry on filiming.

The next scene which we had filmed across the road and was Alia against a wall under the bridge.
We managed to film a few clips, however it started to rain again, but heavily this time. This was meant to be the LAST day of FILMING. But as the rain was quite heavy, we needed to consider the equipment so we rescheduled to film on another day.

PRODUCTION: DAY 3 OF FILMING

After yesterdays set back we came back today with our male actor and filmed what we needed to film with him. We arrived with everything and were ready to start filming but we encountered another problem. When we put the SD cards in their corresponding places, card A said that it was full, but it didn't have anything on it so it would switch to card B but that said it only had 27 minutes on it and that too was empty. We tried calling the college, the media department and the number we were given if there was anything wrong, but it went straight to answer phone. We just had to put up with the 27 minutes we had and not be able to record and bloopers and take the whole process very seriously and delete anything that we thought we didn't need.

We filmed the shots with the male actor on a hill and apart from the fact that the grass was wet from the night before, the sun made it difficult for both the actors to look into the camera so we had to move in to shade slightly but we still had some trouble with it but managed to film what we needed to in the end. Also the shadow of the camera and the person filming was a bit of a problem. We made a lot of changes that day in terms of location, for example our initial idea was that the couple would be lying down on the grass and the guy would disappear and then come back at the end of the  video to the same location as at the beginning. However in the same small park we were filming in the was a type of small garden; so we thought it would look better and the scenery would be more interesting if he came down a few steps that there were and meet the girl at the end of the garden. Whilst filming this scene unfortunately it started to rain, but thankfully for only a few minutes and after we where able to continue filming and obtain a great shot.

We then filmed the scene where Alia hangs the pictures on the tree. It did also start to rain but we managed to film what we wanted.

We found a nice gate near where we were filming and we went through it and discovered a massive open field which was perfect for filming. We instantly fell in love with the place and we decided that there was no point in going to Richmond park after finding this place seeing as we already had so much footage from day 1. But technically the park was in Richmond so really we have stuck to our original plan.

So we found the field and it was a bit windy which was perfect as the outfit Alia was wearing was very floaty. Also as it was close to sunset the sky was a very nice colour and the footage was great. We took advantage of the beautiful scenery and took some pictures of ourselves.

PRODUCTION: DAY 2 OF FILMING

Today we were meant to film the Richmond scene however we encounter one tiny glitch. When we were about to start filming we realised that we had forgotten the SD cards. This was a set back because we planned on filming the Portobello scene tomorrow however now we have to change our schedule and return to film the Richmond scene after booking a cab that morning to take all the things we had to bring with us like the equipment, props and outfits. Today was also the day that the our male actor was going to come and he was actually on his was however we told him to turn around just in time before he came to far for nothing. This whole ordeal was extremely frustrating for us but we have no other choice but to film it tomorrow. Here are a few pictures that we took while we where there.

This is a picture of a map around Richmond station. When we looked on the map we mistook Kew gardens, which is to the top left of the picture, for Richmond park and we want to walk in that direction. However when we arrived at Richmond station the signs pointed us in the right direction and every 5 minutes or so we would find a map which reassured us that we were going in there right direction.

On our way to Richmond park we came across another location, which technically is still in Richmond, Terrace Gardens. Here we found THE perfect tree to hang our pictures on so we kept that in mind for the  following day. On our way back home we discovered a bus that took us back to Richmond station so that we didn't have to walk back or walk the following morning with all our stuff.

This is the tree that we will use tomorrow.

PRODUCTION: DAY 1 OF FILMING

Something very interesting happened today. When we went looking for New River Walk, which was a little hard then we thought, we came across another walk called Asteys Row Rock Garden. Here we shot a lot and we have lots of footage which is amazing because that way we have more to work with. Here are a few photos and videos that we took with Judith's camera.

Last week we finally came to a decision that ALIA HAGGAG will be our artist, which is great news!
She will be using some of her own clothes for filming and also the props Eda and Judith bought.

We have decided her name will be Mia Knight!

We will also have a male actor to play alongside Alia. :)

It took quite a lot of thinking to come up with this name however we LOVE this name and it would be perfect for our music video.

PLANNING: Costume Shopping

We went shopping today in Camden and Westfield Stratford City for the costume for our music video. After a long search in Camden for a big woolly jumper that was to our liking and budget we finally found one, and we love it.

When we went to Westfield we were on the lookout for additional items of clothing. We brought a skirt from Bershka that Judith had seen on the Bershka website and we also brought a wrist bangle from Forever 21. The other items of clothing needed for costume will be from our own.

THE PITCH

PLANNING: Production Schedule

This is our production schedule:

However, if we can film during half term we will film the Richmond Park scene on the 24th of October, because our male actor can make it that day, and the New River Walk scene on the 20th of October.

PLANNING: Letter requesting copyright clearance.

A Letter requesting copyright clearance for the song 'I'll hold my breath' by Eliie Goulding by my fellow group member Eda Yuzudik as I did not send one myself.

Unfortunately we did not receive a reply so we are going to use the song without it! (:

PLANNING: Analysis of Original video and how yours will differ.

Ellie Goulding - I'll hold my breath

This is the Final song chosen for our music video :D!!!
Unfortunately our chosen artist has not released the video for this song so we don't really have a template to follow or have something to improvise from, well I think that was quite lucky however my fellow group members are quite happy so we do not have any expectations to live up to! (which is why we changed our original song)  And we have plenty of ideas to make this video as successful as it can get!

Here are the lyrics...

Breathe air you're not used to, tread floors you don't fall through
Make waves...
You crash a symbol hard
Follow no one, always play the wrong card
Waste days, in foreign places
Shed light, on your better side
Reassure me that you'll wait for me, wait for me as long as it takes now

Hold my breath, I'll hold my breath

Until you see me in your dreams
We'll stay awake beneath the trees
We'll watch the buildings turn to dust
A sky of diamonds just for us
You are the risk I'll always take
The only branch I'll never break
Those fears we'll blow them all way (we'll blow them all away)

Fight fires in your best clothes,
Touch skin with your eyes closed,
Chase thunder...
With the volume down
Pack a suitcase, wander to the next town
Force quit, on your losing streak
Solve a riddle in a magazine, be tongue in cheek
Tell me that we're still too young,
that we're still too young and I'll hold my tongue

Until you see me in your dreams
We'll stay awake beneath the trees
We'll watch the buildings turn to dust
A sky of diamonds just for us
You are the risk I'll always take
The only branch I'll never break
Those fears we'll blow them all way (we'll blow them all away)

I'm here, I'm here to take you
I'll swim, I'll swim to save you
No fall, I'm here to catch you
I'll swim, I'll swim to save...

Until you see me in your dreams
We'll stay awake beneath the trees
We'll watch the buildings turn to dust
A sky of diamonds just for us
You are the risk I'll always take
The only branch I'll never break
Those fears we'll blow them all way (we'll blow them all away)

PLANNING: Describe your music video in one sentence

Revisiting memories to bring back a person.

PLANNING: Animatic

Here is our animatic..

PLANNING: The Making Of Our Animatic

We filmed a few videos to document the making of our animatic, unfortunately we had problems with our hard drive and therefore could not retrieve the videos and post them. A media technician is working on making the hard drive work. We'll hopefully post them soon..

Planning: Pitch (Inspirations)

There are various music videos that have inspired our own, and the plans and ideas we have for it. Each of us have been posting videos, ideas for our own and editing techniques we could us and wrote about it. Here are some of them:

The first and main video that has influenced us is Ellie Goulding's video for 'Your Song'. It is very much the kind of video we want to shoot. The video is set around the same time we will be shooting our film which is autumn and the colours and costumes are very similar. Also the setting is similar to the one we want to use, such as forests, fields, parks and generally in nature. The difference between this video and our one is that our will follow more of a story, or so we have planned for the moment at least. We also like the way this video is edited because there are a variety of shots and sort of 'flashbacks' which is something we want to develop.

Having thought of maybe incorporating the idea of white card with lyrics or possibly photographs, I remembered this song by a new and upcoming artist (in Egypt), Hamza Namira. We really like the idea of having frames hanging up on a tree, but unlike in this video we want to show the artist actually hanging everything up and then at the end you see what it looks like. She will probably have photographs of the boy she loves and/or her, and possibly certain places she liked or bring back happy memories.

Another one of our many ideas is to go on an old fashioned route master bus and film some shots on it like the  and also by the river Thames. In the video 'For Tomorrow' by Blur and Adele's 'Someone Like You' both these scenes appear in them. It is also nice the way that both the videos are in black and white and we could possibly film some shots like that.

We liked the idea of our artist lying on the floor with a guy as it articulates unity and closeness, and considering the fact that our chosen song is about love I think that unity and closeness is something we should definitely depict in our music video. The birds eye view is a good shot to use while filming the beginning of our video where you will see the girl lying beside the guy.

I really like the idea of holding the camera by hand to deliberately make it look handheld when we have a close up of our artist singing, which is an idea I got from this music video and is shown from 1:03 to 1:06. In the video, from 3:35 to 3:39, it shows a girl carving the initials of her and her boyfriend on a tree and then resting on the tree; although this idea may seem really cliché I like it as it depicts love which is what our chosen song is about. We also decided to make our artist wear a dress while she is singing in a forestry surrounding, like the artist in this video (Avril Lavigne) is wearing as it connotes freedom and devotion to some extent.

We liked the idea of holding white card with lyrics on it but I also thought that maybe we could have photographs like this artist does in his music video.
Because she is also singing about her and someone else (presumably a guy), we could have pictures of them together (without looking to clique or cheesy). I think this is a way of telling a story through three ways; the song, the pictures (that she would be holding in her video), and the video itself.

Throughout this video there is a lighting effect that I think will be nice to incorporate into our music video; it is an effect that is given by sun rays.

PLANNING: Target Audience

Our target audience are 16-24 year old reformers. For research on our target audience we created a Facebook account for our target audience called Emily Smith. The account includes where she shops, what artists she likes and what programmes and films she likes. Seeing as reformers understand the benefits of buying fair-trade goods for example, makes them ecological and the locations we will use in our video would appeal to them. Also the outfits in the video would appeal to them because it is the sort of clothes they would wear and therefore when the see the video they can relate to the artist and also want to dress like her.

PLANNING: Artist and brand image

Our artist's brand image is very natural and organic and is into all things green. Like Ellie Goulding is in partnership with Nike with 'Ellie RUNS' our artist would be in partnership with WWF to reinforce her peaful and green image.

Our artist would generally go for the Indie look mainly shopping in individual boutiques and fashion giant Topshop. Seeing as it's autumn we want to use autumn colours like brown, maroon and beige. To keep in tune with the theme she will be wearing wooly jumpers, scarves, and boots.

Also we want to contrast with this look and have a big gown which she will wear in the forrest, with some dishevelled boots like what Christina Perri wears in 'Jar of Hearts'

In terms of style our artist is similar to Pixie Lott, Diana Vickers,Marina and the Diamonds and Ellie goulding.

PLANNING: Our Chosen Record Label

RECORD LABEL

Island Records (major label) because they have a wide range of genres including rock, pop, hip hop, etc. Also they have signed very well known artists such as Jessie J and Rihanna.

SIMILAR ARTISTS IN RECORD LABEL
Florence and the Machine
Gabriella Cilmi
Natalie Imbruglia
Leona Lewis
VV Brown
Amy Winehouse

DISTRIBUTION
The first song will be purely for promotional purposes, so it will be available to download for free for a month; this offer will be available on for download on the official website of our artist, given that they sign up to the website.

PLANNING: Our Music Video & Goodwin's Theory

GOODWIN’S THEORY

Our video is going to be an example of amplification because we like the idea of adding layers of meaning to the lyrics. Our video follow's this theory as the storyline of our video contains This will appeal to the audience as it makes it more interesting since our chosen song in particular has a story that many people can relate to.

PLANNING: Ideas for camera shots

Seeing as we are going to be filming very soon we have started thinking of what type of shots we want to use. obviously we will use a wide range of shots but these are are three main ones:
Long Shots

As we will be filming in a large open space like a forest, long shots like these would look really good so to show off the background.

Photobucket

Close Ups

'I'll Hold My Breath' is a love song so we will use a lot of close ups to convey the emotion of the song and the artist herself.

Cutaways
To make the music video a bit more interesting, cutaways are good fillers for cutting from one clip, to the cutaway, then to another clip.

how to make a gif

The Saturday's 'My Heart Takes Over' is an example that i found that has the kind of shots we would use.
