When doing many things there are basic guidelines and rules to follow and during the last lesson we looked at the do's and dont's of making a digipak and an advert. We have looked at these to avoid making mistakes when in the process of producing the ancillary products for our artist. We took time in the lesson to take a look at ancillary products produced by previous students and analysed them, writing down what worked and what didn't which showed us what we should be aiming for.
Do's
- Use a clear font
- Follow the conventions of a three color rule
- Follow the rule of thirds of composition
- Include industry logo's and conventions; copyrights, date of release
- Do a spell check
- Placement of font and photographs, must be clear from a distance
- Everything must be in focus
- Think about the link of colour, design, fonts, and photographs with the style and genre of your artist
Dont's
- Use too many images, or feel the need to put one in each panel
- Use out of focus images or fonts
- Don't place things without a purpose
- Stretch images, enlarge or crop images
- Use unnecessary effects
- Use a font because you 'like it'
- Use a picture in profile or any strange angles
