Skills Development - Filming and Editing

Within these last 2 months I feel like I have really developed my filming and editing skills. I personally think that this year the editing and filming were more difficult than in my AS year, the main reason for this being the many different cuts that had to be made to prevent boring the audience with long clips and to make it look professional, like an actual music video.

Using Final Cut Pro consistently throughout these past few weeks has enabled me to discover other features of the program and incorporate them into our music video. An example of a newly discovered feature that Judith introduced to us is the Colour Correction effect tool. This tool was very useful to us as we decided to use it throughout our entire video; an idea we acquired from Rihannas ‘Only Girl In The World’ video.

I have become very accustomed to adjusting the brightness, contrast and other little tweaks that had to be made in order to make the video look professional. There was one clip in particular that we had a bit of a struggle with, this is because of the lighting that day which made our artists face come out a blue-ish colour. A lot of tweaking had to be done to fix this.

I found that using markers was very useful throughout the course of editing as it enabled us to cut the clips on the beat of the song.  Something we used quite a lot throughout the video was slow motion as we believed this created a tranquil ambience and merged very well with the song. We used the cutting tool a lot all through the editing process as it was useful for cutting the clips to the beats of the song.
